It is my pleasure and honor to bring to you this year the newest collection of precious gems and jewels available at M.J. Miller & Co. It has been another year of highs in the gold market with prices soaring to record breaking levels. Fine quality diamonds, precious gems and even some of the lesser know gems have also appreciated greatly in the last year. With such increases in the market we are thrilled to see our designers keeping pace with their creativity.

The Leafy Sea Dragon on the cover of the 2012 catalog is a delicate creature who inhabits the warm waters of coral reefs with splendid camouflage. Our jeweled rendition includes shades of blue sapphire and splattered multi-colored tsavorites decorating the multiple fins and leaf-like extensions of the body that assume the impression of seaweed and imitate movements of underwater plant life. Striking yellow sapphires form the main feature of this piece accented with dark blue Ceylon sapphires. The unusual dark silver South Sea pearl represents the prominent belly of the male sea dragon, which in nature is used to carry the young of this intriguing species. The reverse side of the brooch reveals hidden secrets beautifully designed in rose gold. Starting with the tail which displays a layer of coral, we move up to an intimidating octopus whose black diamond eyes warily inspect us and whose tentacles carefully safeguard the pearl. Coral reappears at the dragon’s head, from which a small crab peeks out cautiously. The 18k white gold galleria conceals joints which make the flowing articulation appear in multiple parts of each extension, from the tail to its fins and crown.

The piece can be worn either as a brooch or pendant and the enhancer is positioned on the back of the head.
